Not sure I’d pay half a million dollars and grow a mullet, but I’d definitely do the party out the back and ‘tache thing. Just look at all dat bolt-on fibreglass! Great color scheme, too.
One of 100 homologation special Holden Torana A9X Coupe. These are the ultimate derivative of a platform that started life as a humble Vauxhall Viva and ended it as a ripsnorting Bathurst-winning Au ssie V8 muscle car.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Edit : and here’s Peter Brock winning the 1979 Bathurst 1000 in one of these. In typical Brock style, even though he was six laps up and had the race in the bag, he set a lap record on the final lap. Guy was by all accounts an A-hole IRL, but he didn’t know any other way than full send on the track.

Price: not hot.
Car: super hot.

Unfortunately fat and successful A ustralian boomers are as obsessed with Aussie muscle cars as fat and successful American boomers are with ‘Murican ones . Prices for the unicorns are getting just silly.

Ugh. And I just cut my mullet off last night. That price is certainly going to be a barrier as well

This is like if liftback Novas were cool.

It’s like if a Nova and a Vega had a strangely attractive child.

The only thing I don’t like about this is the studs on the fenders. Everything else about this car is fabulous.

The hilarious thing is though...you could build the same car with a better driveline, suspension and chassis engineering for a fifth of the price...and even that’s being generous.
It just wouldn’t be a numbers matching A9X or SL/R5000...
The local body shop is doing a sedan now and they have at least two hatchback bodies on chassis sitting in their storage yard...

That looks like a Chevrolet Vega.
Looks like lots of engine for as much car as it is.

You say that like it’s a bad thing...

Yup, $100k would buy you God’s own restomod on a vanilla Torana. And you wouldn’t need to be afraid to actually use it.
I must admit I’ve never understood the numbers-matching thing. I can understand spending silly money to own a one-off piece of history, like a winning racecar, but if it’s “ one of N” and I can make that N+1 just by building my own, why not?

hell yeah

Exactly...on both counts.

The world’s sexiest Vega. I love these things.

That is magnificent.

Fun fact: you don’t need this car to grow a mullet. The vehicle doesn’t make the mullet, the mullet makes the vehicle.
Example:
Guy in a van-likely either a tradesman or father of kids
Guy with a mullet in a van-blasts classic rock while ripping cigs on his way to another RallyCross event.
It’s me; I’m the guy with a mull et in a van.

You don’t need this car to grow a mullet, but you need to grow a mullet to properly do justice to this car.
Example:
Me right now driving an A9X Torana - fat boomer with too much money
Me with a mullet driving an A9X Torana - the very picture of Bogan success
(This is in contrast to, for example, a Ferrari 308, where you don’t need to go to the effort of growing a mustache to drive one - the universe will simply edit a full Tom Selleck soupstrainer across your upper lip in the eyes of all bystanders.)
Given that you already have the mullet, the classic rock, and the cigs, you’re 90% of the way there without even trying . I think it’s incumbent on you to take one for the team and buy this thing for all of us.

I like your point. Although I would argue once you drive a 308, a mustache forms and cannot be shaved like Tim Allen’s beard in Santa Clause.
As for the acquisition of the vehicle, give me a moment to sell some organs I don’t think I need.
